So far we've watched less than 20 minutes of Mildred Pierce, and we've had a crime, a cynical and a malevolent character, one sleazy (and somewhat ominous)setting, a bit of melodramatic dialogue (which you'll see quoted if you check this site daily) and lots of smoky photography and foreboding background music!
