video sharing sites

The Short Subject Film deadline is rapidly approaching (one week from today!), so we need to look ahead to the final stage in the filmmaking process: publishing. Publishing is the means by which you share your film with the world: you can do this by saving your completed film to a flash drive, burn it to a video CD or DVD, or upload it to one of several video sharing sites, such as YouTube.

When you have finished editing your film, you will need to take an extra step to finalize it and prepare it for publishing. If you are using the software that comes with the FlipVideo camera, you would choose "Make Movie" and then click on one of the several sharing options (they give you the option of uploading directly to AOL Video or YouTube). If you are using Windows Movie Maker, you would select the link on the left side of the screen, "Finish Movie" and then select one of the choices (don't click "send in email", the file will be too small to view on our big screen!) In iMovie, choose from the dropdown menu, "Share Movie", and then you can send it right to DVD or to a smaller Quicktime file which can be uploaded to a sharing site. ***IF YOU PLAN TO SAVE TO DVD, MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER HAS DVD AUTHORING SOFTWARE such as iDVD(Mac) or something else, such as Roxio (Windows)!!***

Finally, consider using a video sharing site. Here are some alternatives to YouTube:
--Google Video
--AOL video (requires an AOL account)
--Yahoo! video (requires a Yahoo! account)
--Blip.tv (great for widescreen format)
--vimeo (excellent quality!)
--viddler (unique features)
--Jumpcut (also has editor)
--Brightcove (popular with video channel creators)
--Veoh (another host where you can create a channel)

Look around on these sites to see which one you like best. It's a much easier way to share your videos. For all of them, you will need to create an account.
***PLEASE let me know BEFORE this weekend if you encounter problems with editing/publishing your films!
